Nestled on Aleksanterinkatu in the heart of Lahti, Bamboo Bee is more than just a restaurant—it’s the realization of a dream by two passionate founders: Marichu Ebunalo and Harri Numinen. Their story begins with a shared vision: to bring the vibrant warmth and authentic tastes of Filipino cuisine to Finland, blending heartfelt service with soul-nourishing dishes.
Marichu Ebunalo, originally from the Philippines, spent years working as a lähihoitaja across Hong Kong and Finland. Her time in Finland opened her heart to local culture, even as she continued training for long-distance runs through Lahti’s snowy winters.
Inspired by her Filipino heritage and Finnish experiences, Marichu dreamed of sharing authentic flavors through a restaurant. Her dedication, combined with her nurturing nature, laid the foundation for something extraordinary.
Enter Harri Numinen, a local entrepreneur with a flair for hospitality and community-building. Recognizing Marichu’s passion and talent, Harri joined forces with her under the banner of FiliRest Oy, supporting the launch of Lahti’s first Filipino restaurant.
Together, they crafted Bamboo Bee as a space where tulias fussatt in Finnish—“food for the soul”—would come alive. Harri handled the logistical and business side, while Marichu focused on authentic Filipino dishes, heartfelt service, and cultivating the restaurant’s warm, family-like atmosphere.
What truly sets Bamboo Bee apart is its human touch. Marichu and Harri envisioned the restaurant not just as a business, but as a family—”a dream realized by a team of passionate individuals” delivering both cultural experience and culinary delight.
Their partnership blends Finnish hospitality and Filipino warmth, creating an inviting space where every guest feels at home.
